STRATEGY,MANAGEMENT AND CREATIVITY/ 07.08.2019/ MANTHAN GALA/ WEEK 1

Our first class was basically an introductory class where we were briefed about the topics we will be discussing under the elective and we were also asked what we personally expect out of the particular elective. Here are few things that were finally listed down after taking down our inputs and considering what strategy, management and creativity really deals with:

  • management
  • creativity
  • start ups
  • decision making
  • growth
  • fashion related
  • partnership
  • tax
  • logic
  • people management
  • acquiring knowledge
  • money management
  • time management
  • cash flow
  • connection with our current economy and government

Out of all these things we discussed a few of them in detail, like:

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT : I understood that the best way to manage people well is to understand and manage yourself first. Until and unless, we do not understand our strengths, weaknesses and requirements, we will never be in the right position to manage or instruct others.

“ACQUIRING” KNOWLEDGE: There is a big difference between being knowledgable and acquiring knowledge in the right manner. It is very important for any manager to get their facts right before having any sort of discussions. A good manager is always curious to learn more.

MONEY AND TIME MANAGEMENT: Money could be an appreciating or depreciating asset but time is only a depreciating asset. Therefore, a good manager will always prioritise time over money.

We were also introduced to a board game called GATAN, and made to understand how board games are a very good way to improve our management and business skills in today’s time. Also, a good manager always takes down notes.

Our main topics of discussion for this class were:

  • IS RENTING A CAR OR A BUYING A CAR BETTER IN THE PRESENT ECONOMY?

Most of the people felt that buying a car was better because they did not have their facts right and they were just assuming that there is not much cost difference between the two. After the discussion, I understood that most of the families do not think practically and out of the status-symbol pressure they do not even consider renting a car when in today’s economy renting a car is much practical than buying a car.

  • IS IT BETTER FOR A CEO OF A COMPANY TO TAKE A PRIVATE JET OR A BUSINESS CLASS FLIGHT TO ATTEND A MEETING?

I understood that a business class flight would be a cheaper option but it would not be a reasonable option because the aspect of time management kicks into this scenario. For the CEO of a company, it is more important to reach on time for the meeting and have a relaxed journey, than think about the money factor.

This elective is full of practical and interesting discussions that focus on increasing awareness about things that we must know about, around us. Somehow, it is the creative side of business and management, which is the best part about this elective. I am glad I am finally a part of a classroom which deals with knowledge based learning through active discussions.
